What is Sick Leave (SL)?

An employee cannot come to the workplace due to sickness, that leave is called Sick leave. This leave is different from paid earned or casual leaves. If there are more than 2 days of sick leave, then the employee must submit a medical certificate. Receiving sick leave is based on years of seniority, employment, and other factors.

Some companies offer to leave as part of their workplace policy while others offer it as part of either the employee contract. Certain companies enforce a doctor’s prescription to approve sick leave. Companies may fix the utmost number of days that an employee may avail of sick leave. Mostly, employees can avail of 10 days of leave in a year as per state laws in India. However, most companies don’t provide sick leave in practice as per the law.
