A peer is someone who is at your own level at your workplace or college. If you are a brand, other brands of the same niche are your peers. If you are an executive, other colleagues working on the same level are your peers.
The word peer is derived from the Latin word par, which means equal. When you are in an equal position with someone, you are their peer. This word is often used by HRs during the performance evaluation process. This process is called peer appraisal where the evaluation is done by coworkers. Thus named as peer appraisal process.
