Critical Path Method (CPM)

What is a Critical Path Method (CPM)?

The Critical Path Method (CPM) is also known as Critical Path Analysis (CPA). It is a programming method that uses a network diagram to represent a project and the sequences of tasks required to carry it out, so-called paths. defined, the duration of each path is calculated using an algorithm to identify the critical path that determines the total duration of the project. The critical path method (CPM) is used in project management to create project plans and helps project managers.

The critical path method includes different aspects such as:

  • Identify each task required to complete the project and the dependencies between them.
  • It can be used to estimate the duration of the project tasks.
  • Calculate the critical path based on the duration of the tasks and dependencies to critical activities.
  • Planning and controlling critical activities is also one of the key aspects.
  • Start setting milestones and project outcomes keeping in mind the stakeholder expectations for deadlines.
