Corporate Identification Number

What is Corporate Identification Number?

A corporate Identification Number, it is a CIN full form. CIN number means– a unique company identification number assigned by the Registrar of Companies (ROC) to the state government companies. The corporate identity number is given to the private limited companies by ROC while issuing the registration certificate.

It is a 21-digit alphanumeric code that defines a unique identity of a limited company. This is an important number as every company must mention this unique CIN number on the forms that are to be submitted to the MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs). Additionally, CIN is not given to the Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP) that are registered in India.

As per Section 12(3) (c) of the Companies Act, 2013, every company should find CIN and must mention its CIN in the documents.

Listed are some of the important documents:

  • Receipts
  • Letterheads
  • Invoices
