A stakeholder is someone who has an interest in a firm and can impact or be impacted by it. Investors, employees, customers, and suppliers are the major stakeholders in a normal corporation.
Stakeholders can be internal and even external to a company. Internal stakeholders are those who have a direct interest in a firm, such as through employment, investment, or ownership.
External stakeholders are those who are not employees of a company but are affected in some manner by its decisions and outcomes. Suppliers, creditors, and government agencies are examples of external stakeholders.
