What is a Non-Traditional Worker?

Non-traditional Careers are jobs that have traditionally been filled by just one gender. Non-traditional Occupations, according to the US Department of Labor, are occupations in which individuals of one gender account for less than 25% of the total workforce.

Men and women frequently have preconceived assumptions about what constitutes women’s and men’s work. There are few jobs that contain standards that effectively limit employment to men and women. Non-traditional employment is an alternative that many people ignore when looking for work. Tradition and the way we’ve been socialized have long influenced our career choices; as a result, men and women are frequently uninformed of the variety of options accessible to them.

The goal of discovering non-traditional possibilities is to increase interest in and access to these professions for underrepresented gender.
