Absolute Ratings

What is anĀ  Absolute rating?

Absolute Ratings are the process of assigning a definite value on a fixed Pay to an individual’s behavior or performance rather than assigning ratings based on the comparisons done with the other people. This relates to an employee’s decision to leave the company without first notifying their employer. He or she may either not return for days or not return at all.

Absolute Ratings can be determined by work sampling research, expert opinions, or production data. Methods used to establish this ranking can be quantitative, qualitative, or a combination of both.

Performance Appraisal techniques categorized under Absolute Ratings:

  • Critical Incident
  • Easy appraisal
  • Forced Choice Appraisal
  • Checklist Appraisal
  • Graphic Rating Scale
  • BARS [Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales]
