What is a Johari Window?

In the year 1955, Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham introduced a psychological tool known as the Johari Window. It’s a simple and useful tool for understanding and training different aspects of handling an employee, thereby working towards company management.

Here is a list of some of the aspects that Johari Window include:

  • self-awareness

  • interpersonal relationships
  • group dynamics
  • team development
  • intergroup relationships

The Johari window is one of the few tools out there that has an emphasis on the “soft skills” of an employee. It includes aspects such as behavior, empathy, co-operation, inter-group development, and interpersonal development. It’s a great model to use because of its simplicity and for a variety of situations and environments.
