Case Study

What is a Case Study?

A Case Study is defined as an in-depth study of a person, group, task, or event. In a case study, almost every aspect of the subject’s life and history is examined for behavioral patterns and causes. Case studies can be used in a variety of areas. These areas include psychology, medicine, education, anthropology, political science, and social work. It is hoped that the lessons learned from investigating one case study can be carried over to many others and thereby help the individual make appropriate decisions.

Unfortunately, case studies are subjective and the results they provide are sometimes difficult to generalize. While case studies focus on an individual or group, they follow a similar format as other types of psychological writing where they focus on the technicalities of the situation and its relevant impact on human behavior.
