What is Milestone in Project Management?

A project milestone is defined as a way to observe, measure, and monitor the progress of a project. Milestones are in general an intermediate stage that one must fulfill before reaching a final goal or pre-decided objective. If you are trying to simply understand a milestone, you can say that it is a concept that provides a foundation from which you can monitor progress.

You may see it as a basis that serves as proof for explaining and reporting the status of a project. Some of the key characteristics of milestones include:

• Frequency of occurrence
• Potential for providing opportunities for course corrections
• Learning experiences.
